I have been trying to think of a way to say this without feeling like there is going to be judgement. It's ridiculous really, because there is always going to be someone who is going to judge, whether it is a conscious act or not.
Let me be begin by saying this needed to be done. It's had a need for several years and while there have been band aids -- the wound has festered too long. It's time to take off the bandage and address the wound though it will hurt like hell, or cut the fucking thing off and be done with it.
Cutting it off, is quitting. Isn't working through the pain worth it is save the arm? It's the way I am looking at it. Although it's a daunting situation, and it's scary--but it's also liberating, and exciting.
I cannot begrudge him this. It has taken him, for what seems like ages, to come to this decision. His unhappiness started to leach into our life. This is the first real time that he is taking a risk. I mean, a real risk with the sole intention of doing something better for himself, and making himself happy. I don't see this as an easy road ahead. But it's something he has needed to do for a long time. It's better now than later, or never.
He resigned from his job. His last day is November sixth. No, he doesn't have any leads on a new job, so if you got ANY idea for one, now is the time to let us know. We are open to any possibility.
This also means several things: we cannot go on vacation, we cannot buy the new computer, we cannot donate to charitable things, we cannot have a Christmas party and we must conserve every dime. With our savings, my job and per capita we could make it to February before we run out of money.
There comes a time in your life when something has to be done --- and now is the time to do it.

Hi, Laura,
Thanks for telling us about this. I know it's got to be scary to face the prospect of no salary check for a while, but I'm proud of Tim taking the risk to free himself from stressful misery, and proud of you for being supportive and facing the financial issues with honesty and optimism.
I'm sure he'll find something appropriate before February. However, my own constructive suggestion *just in case* finances start to look alarming is temping. It's usually clean office work, starting at $10-11 an hour, and some holidays are paid.
You know, I'm just thinking....some agencies might have computer/network-oriented temp-to-hire opportunities, but I never had the experience to inquire. Temp-to-hire situations are good if you're really looking to settle down somewhere, because you can "feel the company out" for a couple of months and see if they like you and you like them. The temp/hiring agency does most of the preliminary work for you: researching and fitting you with appropriate vacancies, arranging interviews, and ironing out the details if things go well during your tenure and the company wants you permanently.
Here's an agency that's affiliated with OfficeTeam, the company I went through for 2 years:
Robert Half Technology.
Tim can enter his zipcode to see what kinds of openings are available in the area right now. There may be similar agencies in town with other openings, too.

It's good that you told people instead of keeping it inside. Now people can help Tim find a better job. With all the people that care about you guys, Tim should find a job he likes in no time. I used to work for a temp-to-hire place called TekSystems. They got me a job at amfam right away. I rather liked the department that I was in, and so does my friend John that works at Amfam, but it's not for everyone.
You are both destined for great things. I saw that in you when we were kids. And I still see it now. life is never easy, often disipointing, always an adventure. The main thing is to never give up and to always keep reaching for what you want. You're going to be ok. You have freinds that love you, and you have eachother. With those two things I don't see how you will flounder. I have never met anyone that faced life head on with as much optimism and strength as you. You can see that in your life you have gone far. I see no reason for you both to not succeed. We are on your side.

bugs need him. there are still bugs out here waiting to be abducted.

I have often thought about doing the same and came really close last week. Its a very brave move - because doing it is daunting however its probably the right move. If people only did this kinda thing more often -- there would be more happy folk out there.
It'll work out - Tims the shit and we all know it, I wish he was still working with me although somehow I don't think he'd want that again!
