What a night. Our water heater is busted and is leaking it's life's blood all over the basement. It was soaked up into all the carpet squares and rugs we had down there. I spent most of this afternoon cleaning it up. No fun. We also possibly made a rash decision in which we ordered a water heater from Home Depot. I looked up online to see if there were any bad reviews ... and of course the internet is loaded with them.

We can't forget that the internet loves to tell horror stories. So that is mostly what I found. The biggest complaint is the subcontractor part...sigh. I guess we'll see. We are going to talk to them on the phone and get information...and if we feel like they are going to try and do more work ... (to generate MORE money from us) then we are going to cancel and just deal with cold water and replacing the water heater when we get back.

I'm tired. :(

That's terrible. One thing about Home Depot is that they will pay for stuff that goes wrong with their products.

Just last week my mom got a gallon of stain to stain her deck and the guy working there didn't hammer the cover tight. The stain spilled all over her groceries, work clothes, and the interior of her car. They sent someone out to assess the damage and cut her a check for the clean-up and her groceries and got her new stain. It's worth a try to complain. All they can say is no.

Whatever you do, don't report this to your homeowners insurance. They will blacklist you for having water damage even if you don't have anything major and you will pay through your nose. Plus, you get blacklisted. That's what happened to us when our fridge and dishwasher leaked in Point Roberts and ruined the floor. We have 3 more years before we can even negotiate lower home owner insurance rates. You get blacklisted for 7 years just like bankruptcy.

I wish you luck and sanity with this whole mess.
